The Voice of Progress – volunteers making a real difference to people’s lives

THE VOICE OF PROGRESS relies entirely upon its 50 or so volunteers.   Volunteer Now! has been a very useful and reliable source of finding these volunteers.  We distribute tapes and CDs of local news to any visually impaired residents and to anyone who cannot, for whatever reason, read the local papers.  We produce two editions – one for Littlehampton and one for the Worthing area.

The process starts with our editors, several of whom have come to us via Volunteer Now!  Editors select around 30 articles from local newspapers and transfer them to hard copy. Our four reading teams then come to our studio in Rustington to read out these articles which are recorded by our technicians.

Our two copying teams then duplicate the finished product which is transferred on to tapes and CDs and distributed once a fortnight throughout the local area. Royal Mail delivers our pouches free of charge so the entire service is free to listeners.

Our charity could not survive without our wonderful volunteers and we are grateful to Volunteer Now! for their enormous help in this respect.

If you would like to join our team of volunteers or you know of someone who could benefit from our service, please leave a message on our ansaphone 01903 776569.
