There are a number of practical ways that you can be involved including:
Our Volunteers come from all different backgrounds and it is not necessary for new Volunteers to have knowledge in Astronomy.
The Planetarium is a very busy and exciting environment with an opportunity to learn and share knowledge with our visitors.
The South Downs Planetarium & Science Centre in Chichester is a Registered Educational Charity that focuses on Astronomy and associated Sciences.
Over 16,000 visitors are welcomed by a dedicated team of Volunteers each year.
School and University visits to the Planetarium gives each visitor the amazing opportunity to see the projected night sky without cloud or pollution. Our Planetarium Dome is a unique way to explore and learn about Astronomy, Space Exploration and the wonders of the Universe. There is also an exciting programme of Public Shows running thoughout the year for people of all ages to enjoy the wonders of Space.

Our volunteers usually work around 5 hours on a regular basis once a week, but this can be flexible. The Planetarium is usually open during the day Monday to Friday during term-time for School, University and pre-booked group visits. We are also open to the general public on most Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. During the School holidays we are open to the public in the afternoon or evening on certain days, but not every day. Occasionally we hold Observing Evenings on the South Downs, not more than six times per year.
