Welcoming customers to the Canal Cafe and serving them with products from our Cafe, gift shop and booking on boat trips. We welcome visitors of all ages and abilities and pride ourselves on giving all our visitors a warm friendly welcome to the Canal.
The biggest task is serving visitors with hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and snacks (sometimes toasted) and taking cash and card payments. To support the Cafe work, we clear and clean tables inside and outside, and operate the dishwasher to maintain a good supply of clean crockery. We also sell gifts and souvenirs. In addition we take bookings for our boat trips and rowing boat hire. We help our visitors with local information and answering questions such as boat trip times, where the bus stops, what ducks you might see on the Canal - it's always surprising.
The Chichester Ship Canal Trust offers daily scheduled boat trips from February till October as well as popular charter trips and activities to get you closer to the water and to nature. Relax in our popular waterside Cafe and discover our industrial heritage. We offer rowing boat hire, canoe and SUP licences, fishing and walking. From the city centre, 4 miles of towpath leads to the Harbour. Run by volunteers, accessible for all.

Each day we have two small teams of volunteers; most of our volunteers work one or two half days a week. Normal shift times are 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5.30pm. This includes setting up and clearing away. We usually have between 2 and 4 volunteers per session, depending on the time of year.
