Help bring our House to life for visitors over the festive period!

We are recruiting volunteer Christmas Room Guides to help us bring the House to life for visitors while it is dressed for festivities over our busy Christmas period 29 Nov - 4 Jan.

Spend time in the gorgeous stately rooms of Petworth House, decorated for our ‘A Christmas Enchantment’ event, meet like-minded people and join a friendly and active team. Training and biscuits will be provided!

This is the ideal role for those that perhaps aren’t able to commit to long-term volunteering and learning fully about the House, or for those who aren’t as interested in the art or history of the House itself, but would like to spend time in a festive and cosy environment.

Skills

• Providing a warm, friendly welcome to visitors
• Learning about Petworth House and Park and our Christmas offer, so that you can share all that’s special.
• Helping visitors to discover more by telling stories and anecdotes relevant to the property.
• Helping to protect interiors and collections from damage during open hours
• Following security procedures to prevent theft or damage
• Being responsible for the evacuation of visitors in an emergency and playing a critical role on rotation as Fire Zone Warden

A ‘house of art’ overflowing with paintings and sculpture, a glimpse of domestic life in the historic Servants’ Quarters and Pleasure Grounds full of wildflowers and parkland where deer roam wild; with room to breathe and views to inspire the soul there is no better place for you to volunteer your time.

  The state rooms are all ground floor and accessible for wheelchairs with the exception of our Historic Chapel which has a few steps down when entering. We encourage all enquiries and we will do our best to adapt to your needs.

Availability

We have a variety of flexible shift options and can accommodate shifts from just over an hour to all day, whatever you are able to give! We are open across a 7 day period and close for only Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so any help is appreciated.
