Volunteer Gardener - Horticultural

A Volunteer Gardener - Horticultural will work within the Garden Team to help care, maintain and improve where possible the appearance, presentation and plant health of specific areas of the Pleasure Garden Grounds at Petworth.

The landscaped park and pleasure grounds of Petworth are Grade I listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens

Ideally this role would suit:

Horticultural students working towards RHS Level 2 looking for practical experience in an estate garden setting and/or

Keen gardeners who are looking to practice plant husbandry & care in a 36-acre majestic garden setting.

Please note: At this stage we are looking for an expression of interest in this role and would aim to commence volunteering on an mutually agreed date.

Skills

  • Enthusiastic about the great outdoors and enjoy some physical activity surrounded by beautiful scenery.
  • Have an interest and experience in horticulture and gardening and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • Positive, friendly, approachable and team-oriented
  • You need to be reasonably fit and willing to work out of doors in all weather conditions.
  • You'll have an interest in gardens
  • Looking to develop your own gardening skills and enjoy meeting other keen gardeners
  • You may just want to learn more about horticulture alongside other enthusiastic volunteers.

A ‘house of art’ overflowing with paintings and sculpture, a glimpse of domestic life in the historic Servants’ Quarters and Pleasure Grounds full of wildflowers and parkland where deer roam wild; with room to breathe and views to inspire the soul there is no better place for you to volunteer your time.
