We are looking for volunteers to help ensure every donation reaches the people who need it most!

Our food donations make a real difference to people experiencing homelessness and hardship. You’ll play a vital role in keeping food moving safely and efficiently from donors to our services.

From organising stock and preparing food for distribution to collecting donations and helping reduce food waste, your support will help ensure our teams always have the supplies they need.

Location – Chichester (based at our central food store, with occasional travel between Stonepillow sites and local donation collection points)

What you will be doing:

  • Organising and rotating food stock to ensure it remains safe and in date
  • Checking donated food to ensure they meet food safety standards
  • Packing crates for food going out to our services
  • Assisting with collecting food donations from local partners (using your own vehicle, mileage expenses available subject to policy)
  • Helping maintain high food safety standards within the food store

Skills

What we are looking for:

  • Well organised and attention to detail
  • Happy to be active, including lifting and moving crates safely
  • A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle
  • An interest in reducing food waste and supporting the local community
  • Previous food handling or logistics experience is helpful, but not essential

About Stonepillow

Stonepillow provide vital support for homeless and vulnerable people in West Sussex.

Founded in 1989, we are a charity that provides a lifeline for homeless people in Chichester, Bognor Regis and Littlehampton. We work with over 130 people every single day, empowering them to rebuild their lives and find independent accommodation they can call home.

We provide a range of services including day centres, hostels, a recovery service, and supported housing. We also have two charity shops which give people the opportunity to learn new skills and access education, training and employment. We are here for people who are sleeping rough or homeless and want to turn their lives around. The support we offer is tailored to the individual’s needs.

We can be flexible around your availability and are looking for volunteers who can ideally commit to at least one day per week. Current activities typically take place: Monday: Sorting and organising food donations Wednesday: Preparing and delivering food to services Shifts can be adapted depending on the day's tasks, with both shorter (2–3 hour) and longer sessions available.
