Car Park Welcome Volunteer
For Petworth House & Park

A volunteer role based in our main car park, providing a warm welcome to visitors, answering questions, providing directions and assisting with daily car park management and coordination. Also driving our mobility vehicle when requested.

- You’d also be joining Europe’s largest conservation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves (including lighthouses, villages, pubs and a gold mine!). We are a unique charity welcoming millions of people each year and with a vision to open up places for the benefit of everyone, for ever.
What's involved?
- Provide visitors who need assistance with mobility, access to the House, by driving an electric buggy, when requested from Main Car Park
- Help keep the vehicle clean and presentable
- Working as part of a busy team in a customer orientated environment, engaging with visitors and being on your feet all day
- Making everyone welcome, providing a warm, friendly welcome and goodbye to all
- Answer any questions and give out any information about the property and the Trust
- Engage in conversations with visitors and point them in the right direction for more information i.e. about joining NT
- Informing, if people ask, the best routes around the property, especially disabled people and families
- Assisting with parking of vehicles, support with car park machines and check tickets are displayed as well as selling parking tickets in the overflow car park
- To help ensure the car park is kept clean and tidy
- Becoming familiar with and then follow National Trust's Health and Safety & Cash Handling Policy at all times
Skills
This role will suit you if you are...
- Someone who enjoys meeting new people - there'll be plenty every day!
- Passionate about Petworth House and Park and the Trust as a whole
- Cheerful, friendly, confident and outgoing even when there's a nip in the air
- Able to adapt to busy and quiet times
- Happy to work outside, being on feet all day and like meeting new people (and their dogs)
- Happy to drive our visitors when required from the Car Park to House
All National Trust volunteers will be asked to:
- Respect and uphold the National Trust values whilst volunteering with us
- Complete training required of all NT volunteers and any role specific training
- Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity
About Petworth House & Park
A ‘house of art’ overflowing with paintings and sculpture, a glimpse of domestic life in the historic Servants’ Quarters and Pleasure Grounds full of wildflowers and parkland where deer roam wild; with room to breathe and views to inspire the soul there is no better place for you to volunteer your time.
